Before You Upgrade to Windows 10
You may have heard that Microsoft is offering upgrades to Windows 10, and you might be thinking of upgrading your operating system. Call us before you do to make sure your current security system is compatible with Windows 10.
If you have an Access Control system (card access or telephone entry), the software on your computer may not be compatible with Windows 10 and could stop working if you upgrade. Give us a call or email us for a compatibility check.
One last tip, the Home version of Windows is not compatible with most security systems, so make sure you don’t switch from the Professional to the Home version.
Before You Cancel Your Phone Line
If you have alarm monitoring or ULC fire alarm monitoring and you want to cancel a phone line to save money, call us first. Some of our customers forget that their alarm system uses the phone line to communicate to the monitoring station. If that phone line is cancelled, there’s no way for the system to call out to the monitoring station when a security emergency happens.
If you do want to cancel your phone line but continue your monitoring, you have the option of adding a T-link that uses the internet for monitoring or a GSM communicator that uses a SIM card (like a cell phone).
If you’ve switched your phone line recently and are not sure if your monitoring is working, check your keypad. If there is an “FC” displayed, that means “fail to communicate” and your system is currently not able to be monitored. This should be addressed immediately.
Before You Change Internet Providers
If you have an alarm system that relies on an Internet connection or you have a camera system that you can view remotely, be sure to check with us before changing Internet providers. We’ll walk you through the steps you need to take to make sure your security system continues to work after the change.
